Chapter 1: A Miraculous Birth I was born in the hill country of Judea, to Zechariah and Elizabeth, both of priestly descent. My father was from the line of Aaron, and my mother from the same holy lineage. My birth, though, was unlike any other; it was foretold long before I came into the world. When my parents, elderly and childless, had almost given up hope, the angel of the Lord appeared to my father, telling him I would be born to prepare the way for the Lord. My parents rejoiced at this divine promise, and I was raised with the knowledge that my life was set apart for something far beyond the ordinary. Though my father served as a priest in the Temple, I knew that my path was not to be one of ritual and sacrifice within those sacred walls. Instead, I felt drawn to the wilderness, where I could hear God's voice more clearly, away from the distractions of the world.
